Wine It Up

You will be pouring this homemade wine syrup over everything

It’s tangy, it’s sweet, it’s easy and it’s homemade. This syrup made from reduced red wine is great for making a wide variety of dipping sauces for anything that you love to dip. It’s a delicious addition to any cheese plate, adding some tasty, slightly tangy, and sweet flavors. You can also drizzle it over fresh berries or fresh fruits, drizzle it into or swirl it into ice cream or Greek yogurt, pour it on pancakes or waffles, toss it with roasted vegetables, add it to marinades, whisk it into salad for dressing and the list goes on. Impress your guests with your own homemade wine syrup.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups of wine of your choice (Sutterhome wine is available in the Store of Licores Maduro or at your favorite supermarket)
  • 3 cups of sugar

In a wide saucepan or skillet, combine the wine with sugar (a good ratio is 3 cups wine to 1 cup sugar). Bring to a boil, then reduce heat. Simmer until syrupy and reduced to about a third of the volume. Let it cool, bottle, and refrigerate.

To upgrade your syrup you can simmer the wine with flavorings, such as fresh ginger, cinnamon sticks, cloves, rosemary, black peppercorns, vanilla bean, or herbs of your choice. Just strain them out after cooling the syrup.
