March 12th: Popcorn lovers’ day

Served sweet or salty, popcorn lovers all over the world are celebrating this wonderful day every year on the second Thursday of March. For those of you who always eat popcorn at the theater we have this very simple recipe for you to try and make your own popcorn at home. Simple, easy and delicious! We dare you to season your popcorn with one of the seasonings below instead of using just butter and salt or sugar. You will be amazed of all the possibilities!

Ingredients:

  • Goya cooking oil
  • ½ cup Goya yellow popcorn
  • Flavorless oil

 

Seasoning of choice:

  • Ranch: ½ tsp dried dill, ½ tsp dried chives, ½ tsp garlic powder, ½ tsp onion powder, ¼ tsp salt, ¼ tsp pepper
  • Cilantro and lime: ¼ cup chopped fresh cilantro, ½ tsp finely grated lemon zest, ½ tsp kosher salt
  • Cinnamon Sugar: 2 tbsp powdered sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon, ¼ tsp salt
  • Cheese: 2 tbs nutritional yeast, 1 tsp salt
  • Masala: ¼ tsp ground turmeric, ¼ tsp popcorn salt, 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper, ¼ tsp ground cumin, ¼ tsp ground coriander
  • Gingerbread: 1 ½ Tbsp powdered sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon, ¼ tsp ground ginger, ¼ tsp ground cloves
  • Peanut butter: 3 tbs agave nectar, ½ cup natural peanut butter, pinch of salt
  • Coconut Curry: 1 tbsp unsweetened shredded coconut, ½ tsp curry powder, ¼ tsp salt
  • Parmesan-rosemary: 1/8 cup grated parmesan, 1/8 tbs finely chopped fresh rosemary, pinch of kosher salt.
  • Dorito: 2 tbsp nutritional yeast, ¼ tsp garlic powder, ¼ tsp onion powder, ¼ tsp cumin, ¼ tsp paprika, ¼ tsp chili powder, ¼ tsp salt
  • Sesame: : ¼ cup roasted sesame seeds, ¼ tsp sugar, ¼ tsp salt
  • Mexican Chocolate: 1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder,1 tbsp powdered sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon, ¼ tsp salt, pinch of cayenne pepper
  • Salt-Vinegar: ½ tbs vinegar, ¼ tsp kosher salt
  • Taco: 1 tbsp taco seasoning, 1 tbsp nutritional yeast

 

For this recipe you will need to use a large skillet with a tight fitting cover. Add enough cooking oil to cover bottom of skillet and place over high heat. Pour in the Goya Popcorn. You should add enough to cover the bottom of the skillet. Cover skillet and shake until all corn is popped. When all the popcorn is popped you can lightly spray the popcorn with the flavorless oil and then add your favorite seasoning.  Which one did you choose? Enjoy!
